Description
The Faculty of Education is pleased to partner with the Janusz Korczak Association (JKA) of Canada in presenting the Dean’s Distinguished Lecture. The purpose of this annual distinguished lecture is to highlight the ongoing work of those who seek to advance children’s rights in Canada. The JKA partners with the Faculty of Education as a way of continuing the legacy of Janusz Korczak, a Polish-Jewish doctor and educator, who in 1942 perished in Treblinka along with nearly 200 orphans in his care. This year’s lecture features Dr. Cindy Blackstock, who led a successful human rights challenge to Canada’s inequitable provision of child and family services and failure to implement Jordan’s Principle. Dr. Blackstock, a member of the Gitxsan First Nation, serves as Executive Director of the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society.
